Joseph Ambrose Viereck, son of Jim Viereck and Suzanne Billion Schrier, was born on September 28, 1990. Joseph attended St. Lambert Elementary School, O'Gorman Junior High School and O'Gorman High School. He was a parishioner at St. Lambert parish and possessed a strong spiritual faith. Joseph excelled academically and was enrolled in several advanced courses. He was also involved in many sports while attending O'Gorman, participating in basketball, track, and football, for which he had a very strong passion. Joseph will be remembered as the young man who always had a smile on his face and lived each day to the fullest.
The recipient of the Joseph Viereck Memorial Scholarship will receive an award certificate in May as well as a tuition credit towards their junior year at O'Gorman High School. The recipient will be determined by the scholarship selection committee.
The Joseph Viereck Memorial Scholarship is a special scholarship that recognizes a high school student(s) that will be a junior at O'Gorman High School and exemplifies humanitarianism and kindness. It is the desire of Joseph's parents that the junior student(s) emulate Joseph's characteristics. When two or more recipients are selected there shall be at least one recipient of each gender. Although financial need is not part of the criteria for this scholarship, those with financial need are encouraged to apply to augment other financial assistance.
The Joseph Viereck Memorial Scholarship application form will be made available each year during enrollment on the Bishop O'Gorman Catholic Schools website. Please complete the application form, copy of your most recent transcript, an essay of 200 words or less describing how you emulate Joseph's characteristics and how those characteristics have helped make a difference in the Bishop O'Gorman community, and two recommendation letters with at least one from outside of OGHS (please allow individuals 1-2 weeks to complete).The TADS application should be completed to be eligible for this scholarship.
